Maxim Kolomeytsev and his girlfriend Nadezhda
A couple who were supposed to be on Sunday’s doomed Russian plane that crashed changed their tickets at the last minute — because a car they planned to buy wasn’t ready on time, according to a new report.
Maxim Kolomeytsev, who turned 35 on Sunday, was going to be on fatal flight 6W703 with his 25-year-old girlfriend Nazezha so they could spend his birthday with family in the city or Orsk, East 2 West news reported.
The lucky businessman also planned on gifting himself a new car from a dealership in his home city, but the showroom called to say it wouldn’t be ready on time.
“When I found out the car was not ready, I delayed the trip by a week,” he said.
Changing their tickets cost about $170, Kolomeytsev said.
“But we’ve got our lives,” he added.
The passenger plane belonging to Russian commercial carrier Saratov Airlines crashed approximately five minutes after taking off for Orsk from Moscow’s Domodedovo airport, killing all 71 people on board.
